"Three images of the body's extremities. A head in the wind with a leaf in its hair, a foot in the grass, a hand with a trickle of water, this piece concerns feelings about the natural world"

Many of the works pay homage to some of New Zealand’s major artists including Lois White, Rita Angus, Colin McCahon and Tony Fomison.

Terry Stringer - Head of McCahon as a Small Chapel 2014

The featured work (above) is Head of McCahon as a Small Chapel 2014:
"Teaching at Elam when I attended, McCahon was private about his own painting. When seen in galleries, his work showed intense spiritual life, shown here as a contemplative space"

The Christchurch Art Gallery is showing new works by Canterbury artists Tony de Lautour, Jason Greig and Bill Hammond, all represented by the Brooke Gifford Gallery. The DE LAUTOUR/GREIG/HAMMOND exhibition is at the Gallery's temporary space at the NG building, and ends 10th March, 2013. The exhibition features "selections of de Lautour's recent geometric abstract paintings, Greig's exquisitely executed dreamscape monoprints, and photo-relief montages, and Hammond's iconic morphed birds inhabiting primeval landscapes" (sourced CAG website).

A selection of these new works (displayed below) are courtesy of the artist and Brooke Gifford Gallery, and we welcome all sales enquiries.

As of 21st December 2012, the Brooke Gifford Gallery building in 112 Manchester Street is still standing, but it's now likely the Brooke Gifford building will be demolished. We are disappointed because there were some hopeful signs that the building could be saved. After 37 years in 112 Manchester street, this iconic building and its rich history will be sadly missed. In the New Year, we continue to promote our artists online, and through our temporary premises by appointment.

We congratulate Christchurch artist Darryn George, who has been chosen to exhibit at the 2013 Venice Biennale in Italy. His installation will transform a room in the 15th century Palazzo Bembo into a 21st century meditational space - with high-gloss black panels featuring a series of small geometric insets.

Thank you for continuing support, and have a safe and Happy Christmas and New Year.

Gretchen Albrecht, Joanna Braithwaite, and Séraphine Pick are among 20 artists chosen to exhibit at the Katherine Mansfield Birth Place in Wellington. Her Painted Words is an exploration of Mansfield’s descriptions of her love of flowers, the natural world and the artists’ response to those words. The exhibition closes 16 February 2013.

July 12th 2011 - Good news.
